The Linnansaari national park

in Haukivesi is a paradise for water travellers. Suitable both for day trips, tent campers and boat owners. These islands house the famous Saimaa ringed seals and one of Finland's densest populations of ospreys.

The Kolovesi national park

provides peaceful wilderness for paddlers and rowers. The landscape is dominated by vertical cliffs that rise up to 40 metres above the water. They were carved by the last ice age, which also brought the ringed seals that still dwell in the vicinity.

Kämäri island and Ämmäkoski rapids

The natural idyll of the Kämäri island has remained an untouched green spot in the middle of the city. Many kinds of animals and several rapids enliven the view.

A marked nature trail goes round between the Ämmäkoski Rapids and the Taipale Canal. The 3km long nature trail is marked with otter signs and there are 16 control points with texts in Finnish. The Kämäri Nature Trail begins at the northern end of the island, on the shore of the Ämmäkoski Rapids.
